Ringing/Ghosting

Hard to Fix

Wavy patterns appear on flat surfaces after sharp corners or direction changes, like ripples in water.

What Does It Look Like?

Ripple patterns radiating from corners
Wavy lines on flat walls
Echo effect after sharp features
Most visible on fast direction changes

Common Causes

Print speed too fast
Acceleration/jerk too high
Loose frame or belts
Heavy/unstable print bed

Solutions (Try in Order)

Start with Priority 1 solutions. Make one change at a time and test between changes.

1
Reduce Print Speed

Slower speeds reduce vibration

Try 40-50mm/s instead of 60-80mm/s
1
Lower Acceleration

Gentler direction changes

Reduce acceleration to 500-1000mm/s²
2
Tighten Frame and Belts

Eliminate mechanical wobble

Check all bolts, tighten belts to guitar-string tension
2
Enable Input Shaping

Advanced firmware compensation

Klipper or Marlin Input Shaping calibration
3
Reduce Jerk Settings

Smoother direction changes

Jerk: 5-8mm/s (firmware or slicer)
3
Add Damping

Absorb vibrations

Rubber feet, concrete paver under printer
Prevention Tips
  • Save working settings for each filament type
  • Perform regular printer maintenance
  • Keep filament dry and stored properly
  • Re-level bed before important prints
  • Start with manufacturer-recommended settings
