Poor Bridging

Medium to Fix

Filament sags or fails when printing horizontal spans between supports.

What Does It Look Like?

Sagging filament across gaps
Drooping bridges
Strings hanging down
Uneven bridge surface

Common Causes

Insufficient cooling
Print speed too slow
Temperature too high
Extrusion multiplier too high

Solutions (Try in Order)

Start with Priority 1 solutions. Make one change at a time and test between changes.

1
Maximum Cooling

Solidifies filament quickly

Fan: 100% for bridges
1
Increase Bridge Speed

Faster movement reduces sag

Bridge speed: 150-200% of normal print speed
2
Lower Print Temperature

Cooler filament solidifies faster

Decrease by 5-10°C for bridges
2
Reduce Bridge Flow

Less material = less weight to sag

Bridge flow multiplier: 90-95%
3
Orient Print to Minimize Bridges

Design or orientation change

Rotate model to reduce bridging distance
Prevention Tips
  • Save working settings for each filament type
  • Perform regular printer maintenance
  • Keep filament dry and stored properly
  • Re-level bed before important prints
  • Start with manufacturer-recommended settings
