Over-Extrusion

Easy to Fix

Too much plastic is being extruded, causing blobs, poor surface finish, and dimensional inaccuracy.

What Does It Look Like?

Bulging or rough surface
Blobs and zits on outer walls
Oozing from nozzle
Parts too large (dimensionally inaccurate)

Common Causes

Extrusion multiplier too high
Incorrect filament diameter in slicer
Temperature too high

Solutions (Try in Order)

Start with Priority 1 solutions. Make one change at a time and test between changes.

1
Decrease Extrusion Multiplier/Flow

Reduce material output

Decrease by 2-5% increments (try 95-98%)
1
Verify Filament Diameter Setting

Wrong diameter causes incorrect flow calculations

Should be 1.75mm in slicer (measure actual filament)
2
Lower Print Temperature

Cooler material is less runny

Decrease by 5-10°C
3
Calibrate E-steps

Ensure extruder moves correct amount

Extrude 100mm, measure, adjust firmware
Prevention Tips
  • Save working settings for each filament type
  • Perform regular printer maintenance
  • Keep filament dry and stored properly
  • Re-level bed before important prints
  • Start with manufacturer-recommended settings
